New hospital block, SouthportThis project demonstrates ModuleCo’s ability to design and build large scale, complex healthcare facilities within tight timescales and to high standards, as well as showing the benefits of off-site construction for major hospital developments. |

| The requirement. Southport & Ormskirk Hospitals NHS Trust had a requirement for a new modular hospital block, incorporating additional ward accommodation, laminar flow operating theatre and an administration centre. New facilities were needed, initially, to help the Trust reduce the waiting list for hip replacement operations in the area. |

| Additionally, there was a specific requirement for an operating theatre and a ward to be operational before completion of the whole building. | ||||||||
![]() | The solution. ModuleCo designed and built a two-storey, 4000m2 modular hospital block at Southport and Formby District General Hospital. Groundwork was provided by Costain, the ProCure21 partner at the Southport & Ormskirk Hospitals NHS Trust. |

| The use of off-site construction enabled ModuleCo to provide the facility in 30 weeks, with the first phase (operating theatre and first ward containing 28 beds) completed after only 15 weeks. The benefits. ModuleCo’s off-site construction approach provided the following benefits to the hospital:

| The result. The first floor of the new building incorporates an orthopaedic operating theatre suite, a 4-bed recovery ward and 2 wards each with 28-bed spaces. Each ward includes four 6-bed wards, four single rooms, a nurse station, ancillary areas and patient facilities. The ground floor includes a large open plan administration area and 16 private offices. |
