Neurosurgery Ward

Neurosurgery ward, Liverpool, ProCure21

Working with principal supply chain partner ACM Health Solutions, ModuleCo built a two-storey neurology block at Alder Hey Hospital, Liverpool as a part of a ProCure21 project.

The requirement.
As phase II of the ProCure21 project at Royal Liverpool Children’s NHS Trust, ACM Health Solutions had a requirement for the construction of a two-storey neurology block with the first floor of the building incorporating a new neurosurgery ward.

The solution.
Using off-site construction, ModuleCo built a high quality 2200m2 modular building, linked into the existing hospital facilities. The first floor of the building accommodates a new neurosurgery ward which was available for occupation prior to the completion of ground floor fit-out. The overall programme of the project was only 18 weeks. The facility was provided through ACM’s 12-year Managed Service Facility contract, the first to be delivered under ProCure21 using private finance.

The benefits.

The use of modern modular building systems offered the following benefits to the healthcare provider:
  • There was far less disruption to the hospital, compared with traditional construction
  • The new modular ward was handed over prior to the completion of work on the ground floor
  • The building is of the highest quality and is natural in appearance.

  • New facilities were operational within 18 weeks
  • Built to permanent building standards, the new block is a modular facility and can be classed as a temporary building and therefore attracting no capital charges
  • A 60-year design life warranty
  • It can be easily removed from the site at the end of the contract period

The result.
New neurosurgery ward, comprising a 5-bed high dependency unit with a nurse station, two 4-bed wards with fold-out beds for parents, three single rooms with en suites, a large nurse station, children’s play area, treatment room, a number of support service areas and staff & parents facilities.

The ward is decorated with pictures, embedded into vinyl floor finishes and natural light sun-pipes, providing bright, comfortable and functional settings for child recuperation.
